CITIZENS OF TODAY AND CITIZENS OF THE FUTURE

The great aim of education is not knowledge but action, said English philosopher Herbert Spencer (1820-1903).

The mission of 3R Education is all in our name: to educate residents of Newaygo County about environmental sustainability including the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Our goal  is to inspire local action in small and big ways that helps support a healthy environment.

A significant focus of our energies is our outreach to school children. Every year, we reach out to teachers and arrange time with their kids for the exploration of environmental sustainability. For our younger citizens, we focus on the 3Rs. We visited 48 classrooms last year, and hope to top that this year with the help of volunteers.

The education of school children is foremost, but not all we do. Check back soon for more information as we get our new website developed.

In the meantime, our goals are only possible with volunteer help. If you enjoy children, care about sustainable living, and can work a few hours weekly or every other week, we need you! There are multiple ways you can help: in the office; in the schools; with our after school program; with events…

With the new school year just beginning, we are concentrating our search on school helpers. Would you enjoy visiting a school every two weeks and giving 2nd to 4th graders our interactive presentation? It runs about an hour including stepping the kids through making a simple craft out of a recyclable at the end. We train you. It’s a lot of fun, especially for people who enjoy children. It is the most rewarding feeling to see these new little citizens of our world discover environmental sustainability.

Please call Linda at 231.924.5822 if you are interested in working with us in any capacity.

“Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.” – Chief Si’ahl (Seattle), January, 1854

The Great Chief in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us… Every part of the Earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clear and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of … (the full speech is still available at the old RNC Inspirational Info/Helpful Links).
